Artists Turn a Sterile Children's Hospital Into Something Magical

Hospitals can be scary, lonely and seemingly inhospitable places as a patient - especially when you’re a child. The sights and sounds, the cold grey and white walls and all that medical equipment – it can make being sick even worse than it already is.

Luckily, one children’s hospital in London has been given a bit of a makeover with that in mind.

Vital Arts, a British arts organization charged with the mission to bring art to Britain’s hospitals, has gathered a group of artists to give The Royal Children’s Hospital a re-vamp. They believe that it is sure to take at least some of the trepidation out of a trip to the doctor.

To the delight of patients, each artist was given freedom to decorate with their own esthetic and sense of style. Of course, with hospitals come certain restrictions in regards to hygiene and the control of bacteria, but as long as the materials used were easy to clean, the artists had a wide range of mediums to work with.

We can only imagine the difference this makes to the tiny visitors at this London hospital – from those with longer stays, to those who come in for a quick check-up.
