Artist’s Touching Tribute to Father Is a Bottomless Library of Books

Swedish artist Susanna Hesselberg’s sculpture is an endless tunnel of literature. It appears to be a rabbit hole that serious bookworms would want to dive right into (which is probably why it is topped with glass).

The sculpture, titled “When My Father Died It Was Like a Whole Library Had Burned Down” (a nod to lyrics in the Laurie Anderson song “World Without End”), is symbolic of the sinking feeling of loss after death.

The impressive collection of books represent a personal heirloom. They are a reproduction of the library she inherited from her own father.

Hesselberg’s installation was one of 56 installations displayed at the biennial Sculpture by the Sea, the largest outdoor sculpture exhibition in Denmark.
