You could call this art project the ultimate craft fail, but that would understate the seriousness of the blunder that happened earlier this week in downtown Atlanta.

A Georgia State University student tells authorities she is “mortified” after the Atlanta Police Department’s bomb squad detonated her solargraphy camera Monday, which she had duct taped to the side of a busy street there as part of a class assignment

A bystander spotted the device and called 911 to report it as a suspicious package.

"I was in the passenger seat and I looked over the the left, and I saw this object taped to the outside of the bridge," Brock Scott told 11Alive News.

"The object looked like a cylindar or tube of some kind, and it was duct-taped aggressively to the side of the bridge.  And it just didn’t look right…. If it happened to have been something dangerous and we didn’t report it, that’s something you gotta live with the rest of your life."

Rush hour traffic was snarled when the Downtown Connector was closed.

The instructor had told the class to place their devices wherever they chose for three months, in order to capture sunlit scenes.

Neither the teacher nor the student were identified by police, but authorities had yet decided whether to file charges.
