A Different Kind of Nail Art

No matter how much art you've seen over your lifetime, you probably haven't seen anything quite like the pieces sculptor John Bisbee makes. For nearly three decades, the Maine-based artist has been creating sculptures small and large (some very, very large!) out of nails and, more often these days, 12-inch spikes. How on Earth did he think up this art form? After working as a potter and glass blower and getting "bored" with both, he began assembling sculptures with objects he'd find in abandoned homes and farmhouses. "One house had a bucket of nails at the foot of the bed. I kicked it over and that was it. It seemed quite obvious," " Bisbee, who serves as sculptor in residence at Bowdoin College, tells Yahoo DIY. Click through the slideshow to check out some of his sculptures, both new and old. It's not exactly art you want to cuddle up with, but it's certainly wow-worthy.
