Makers know that IKEA is the blank canvas of furniture. It’s an easy way to start with a simple (and usually affordable) structure, then let your personal, creative touch turn it into a unique statement piece.

There are also easy organizational hacks that turn the unexpected into something new. Spring rods are a small space’s BFF.

It seems IKEA has caught on to us crafty folks. (They did build us a hack kit, after all.) The highly anticipated annual catalog just released its 2016 issue, and it is chock-full of Swedish design goodness. But this year’s issue is also filled with tips on how to optimize and personalize your space. The company even suggests staining its own furniture.

The store is by no means perfect (as shown by some of the worst IKEA products), but there’s lots to love in their new catalog.
