A Modern Take on the Thanksgiving Cornucopia - and You Won't Believe What It's Made From!

“The Horn of Plenty” or Cornucopia has always been a feature on the Thanksgiving table, and this year, we’ve decided to give it a bit of a facelift.

This modern copper and white cornucopia is made from little more than a wire trash can and a roll of white duct tape. It’s inexpensive and oh-so-chic when dressed with tumbling white gourds.

Materials:

  • Wire Mesh Waste Basket (copper preferred)

  • White Duck Tape

  • Paper Bags

  • White Bag

  • Gourds, Corn, Wheat - real or fake

  • White Flat Spray Paint

  • Glue Dots (optional)

Tools:

  • Scissors

Instructions:

1. Spray paint all the gourds, corn, wheat etc flat white, and let them dry (multiple coats needed.)

2. Smash the wire mesh waste basket so that it makes a cornucopia shape as best as you can.

3. Scrunch a thick paper bag into a point to make the ‘tail’ and tape onto the bottom of the wastebasket to complete the cornucopia ‘horn’ shape.

4. Continue taping the entire “cornucopia” with the white duck tape, wrapping around and around.

5. Scrunch a white bag (plastic or paper) and stuff to the back of the cornucopia to take up some space.

6. Lay the cornucopia on its side, push down a bit to create a flatter bottom so that it doesn’t roll.

7. Add the white gourds, corn, wheat etc so they are ‘tumbling’ out.

Hint: If your gourds won’t stay in place, sneak a few glue dots in between them to secure them into place.
