New Zealand Family Discover Sharks Swimming in Shallow Rock Pool

Members of a New Zealand family were surprised on December 31 when they happened upon a school of sharks swimming in remote shallow rock pools during a fishing trip near Ahipara, Northland.

Drone footage filmed by Sam Carroll shows the family members standing in awe as the sharks swim among rocks a few inches away.

Speaking to local media, Lisa McNab, a local kaitiaki, said the encounter in question was one of two rare sightings in the area recently. (Kaitiaki is a Maori term for a person who acts as a guardian for the environment).
