Should the impending seasonal shift find you wanting moodier makeup, you're in good company—and sure to have aspirational examples in spades. First on the docket? Zazie Beetz, who last night paired a breathtaking updo with a matte Merlot lip that had even summer's most hopeless mourners yearning for fall.
Hairstylist Lacy Redway took to Instagram to share a video of Beetz's look, dreamed up for the premiere of her forthcoming film Seberg at the Toronto Film Festival. Hair-wise, the actress’s onyx mane was wound into a braided tie-back worthy of Game of Thrones, with intricate, snaking plaits creating a stylized crown from which Beetz’s curls sprung, free-form. And along with a subtle extension of black liner, Beetz's perfectly painted, purple-meets-burgundy pout felt inordinately fresh, like a welcome brisk breeze. The only requisite? A lit-from-within, dewy complexion, the perfect backdrop for a velvety lip to shine for its lack of lacquer.
