Just when you thought Zac Efron was going to get his happily ever after with Vanessa Valladares, a new report claims the pair have actually split. Eek.

If you'd looked up 'whirlwind romance' in the dictionary this summer, a picture of Zac and Vanessa would have popped up. After allegedly meeting in a Byron Bay cafe where she worked in June, multiple 'sightings' of the pair were reported by locals throughout July this year.

Then, the couple were spotted enjoying a skiing trip together in Thredbo, New South Wales, before holding hands while on a lunch date in Byron Bay.

In September, a source told Us Weekly, "Things moved quickly, and Vanessa spends most nights at Zac’s house. They are both very smitten with each other." Before another report broke in October that claimed they were engaged.

But now it's looking like things weren't to be - according to a source at The Sun, despite Zac suggesting a move to Australia to be close to Vanessa, work commitments have put a strain on the couple.

"They'd started to look at a few places but, sadly, fate wasn't on their side," the insider claimed. "Zac's work and the enforced distance has really taken its toll. Friends hope they can reunite, but it seems their relationship was more like a holiday romance than they cared to admit."

Ouch.

Zac had been in Australia filming his new Stan Original movie, Gold, recently relocating from Byron Bay to Adelaide. Due to ongoing coronavirus restrictions he seemingly can't return to Byron to see Vanessa.

A source told Woman's Day earlier this week: "Filming a local production is probably needed to support his visa, so there's no backing out for Zac. He'll be here in Adelaide for a while."
