Yu Darvish says report that he's signing with the Cubs is 'fake news'
‘Tis the season for outlandish MLB free-agent and trade rumors. When a reliable reporter with a familiar name says a deal is happening, there’s often a reason for fans to get excited. But this time of year — especially on Twitter — it isn’t uncommon for Hot Stove rumors to circulate via reporters you’ve probably never heard of.
Enter a guy who calls himself Barstool Carl — a podcaster and blogger for Barstool Sports — who reported Thursday that top free-agent pitcher Yu Darvish signing with the Cubs is a “done deal.” He hashtagged it with “#scoopycity.”
Except Darvish himself retweeted it and called it “Fake news.”

This is one of those times where you probably have to ask yourself — who do you trust more for Yu Darvish news, Darvish himself or a guy named Barstool Carl?
That’s not to say that Darvish won’t eventually end up with the Cubs. He very well could. It’s a good match. They need pitching and they have money. Darvish is a good pitcher and he’s expensive.
But it doesn’t sound like it is, in fact, a “done deal.”
