You've Never Seen Kate Middleton With Old Hollywood Waves Like These
When you think of Kate Middleton, the Princess of Wales, you probably think about her signature blowout: full, polished, but not-too-perfect waves with lots of royal-worthy shine. Since her earliest days as part of the royal family, the princess's hair has been a particular point of fascination for royal watchers, but her latest look is a major departure from her go-to updos and loose curls.
The princess made a surprise appearance at Eurovision in a cameo video playing "Stefania," the winning song from the 2022 competition, by Ukraine's Kalush Orchestra. The video begins with a wide shot of a palace and zooms in to see the Princess of Wales seated at the grand piano. She's wearing a one-shoulder aquamarine gown with equally glamorous Old Hollywood waves in her hair.
Her piano skills are a surprise, for sure, but so is her hairstyle. The curls are much more defined and precise than the princess's usual looks. Her hair is parted deeply to one side for red carpet-worthy elegance reminiscent of the iconic looks of stars like Veronica Lake and sculpted into absolutely pristine, undulating waves down her shoulder that bounce gently as she plays along with the orchestra. The princess usually prefers a more tousled approach to her curly styles, but these more formal waves feel fresh on the future queen of England.
Also notable in the video is the princess's neutral manicure in line with royal tradition. The Princess of Wales recently broke free of the rules on Easter when she attended church with a scarlet red mani. While members of the royal family technically are allowed to wear whatever polish they like, they tend to choose neutral colors for big occasions and high-profile events, so the red nails were a bit of a shock initially. However, it's a new era for the royal family, which means the princess may be setting aside her pale Essie polishes in favor of brighter shades, perhaps to match those Old Hollywood waves.
