YouTubers face backlash after throwing 'biggest baby shower' ever: 'Disgusting'

First comes love, then comes marriage, then comes a very ill-timed gender reveal projected onto the world’s tallest building.

As parts of the west coast continue to burn — in part caused by a gender reveal party in El Dorado, Calif., that used a “smoke-generating pyrotechnic device” — one YouTube family isn’t letting the onslaught of news coverage deter them from hosting a wild gender reveal party of their own.

Anas Marwah and wife Asala, known as the Anasala family to their almost 8 million YouTube subscribers, lit up Burj Khalifa in Dubai to reveal that Asala is expecting a baby boy. The Burj Khalifa is the world’s tallest building, clocking in at a height of nearly 3,000 feet.

The family released a 15-minute video documenting the process and the work that went into making the announcement happen.

“Today is the day, guys, where we will reveal the gender of the baby for Anasala’s family on the tower of the Burj Khalifa,” Anas says in the video, which has more than 21 million views as of September 15.

“Oh, my God, I have goosebumps,” Asala adds.

In an unfortunate twist, the couple also took the opportunity to announce that they were moving the family to California. The cost to control the lighting on the Burj Khalifa is speculated to cost around $95,000.

There are 25 major active fires throughout California right now and it’s estimated that they have burned an area almost the size of Connecticut so far. Only 39 percent of the fires are contained.
