Viral internet stardom comes with its own set of occupational hazards. Just ask vlogger FaZe Rug, who's amassed more than 17 million followers on YouTube. In the latest installment of Men's Wealth, the YouTuber shared his advice on making smart financial investments—and the one thing he'd never splurge on again. (Spoiler: It's one hell of a splurge.)

FaZe Rug (real name: Brian Awadis) started out like most internet stars; he'd make a couple gaming videos a day for fun, that is, until he started making serious money off his content at just 16-years-old. Suddenly, his hobby became a career in real-time. His earliest splurge? Three Lamborghinis and a whole bunch of designer clothing. "I did do a lot of dumb purchases," said the YouTube star.

Even worse, he invested a quarter million into an app that never even got off the ground. "A month later, the guy just disappeared," he said. "My money was gone, and I was like, 'Wow, I'm never doing that again.'"

Thankfully, he's a lot more strategic about his finances now. These days, FaZe's all about saving at least half of his money, and investing the rest in properties. "A property will go up in value over time," he says. "When I'm 40, 50, I'm going to have those paid off and be chilling." FaZe even had his hand in producing a new horror movie, Crimson, out this October.

His advice to other up and coming content creators is to diversify—put yourself out there on as many platforms as possible. And, because it worked for him, always be yourself. "Everyone was telling me stop gaming," he said. "But look at where we are today. I followed my dreams. Eight years later, we're at 17 million followers, baby!"
