If You're Wearing One of These 8 Shoe Trends, I Know You're a Fashion Girl

As a self-proclaimed fashion girl who loves shoes, I find the following subject an easy one for me to speak to. I'm one of those annoying people who can't help but look at a person's shoes when I meet or greet them. They can say a lot about them and will immediately tell me if the person is sporty, appreciates comfort, watches the weather, and/or pays attention to fashion.

As a fashion editor, it's my job to have an acute knowledge of the latest trends—shoes included. So if I spot one of these latest and greatest shoe trends on someone in the wild (or the wild that is Instagram), I know they're following fashion to some degree, perhaps even by reading Who What Wear (shameless plug). I compiled eight specific shoe trends that prove your fashion-girl street cred at this very moment, and if that's something you want more of, keep scrolling to shop them for yourself.

Thong Heels

This Y2K shoe trend is one of the biggest shoe trends of spring/summer 2021, so if you're a fashion girl (or have at least been shopping lately), this is probably on your radar.

Shop thong heels:

Who What Wear Sydney Slide Sandals ($99)

& Other Stories Leather Thong Strap Sandals ($129)

Simon Miller Bil Thong Sandals ($390)

Clogs have officially been resurrected, and fashion girls are embracing the '70s vibe that they give to an outfit.

Shop clogs:

Re/Done 70s Classic Clogs ($430)

Birkenstock Boston Leather Slippers ($135)

Retro Sneakers

The retro-sneaker trend is still reigning supreme, so when I see a pair, it's safe to assume I've found a sneaker-loving fashion girl.

Shop retro sneakers:

Veja Rio Branco Sneakers ($140)

Nike Daybreak Sneakers ($90)

Mango Platform Lace-Up Sneakers ($80)

Anything Amina Muaddi

When you see a pair of very cool, very fancy shoes that have some element of sparkle, they're probably Amina Muaddi shoes. As a testament to their popularity, every time they're restocked, they sell out again.

Shop Amina Muaddi shoes:

Amina Muaddi Holli Slingback Pumps ($745)

Amina Muaddi Naima Sandals ($985)

Amina Muaddi Ami Pointed Toe Pumps ($710)

Bubblegum Pink

Bubblegum pink is the It color of the season, and it's made its way to fashion girls' feet.

Shop bubblegum-pink shoes:

BY FAR Noor Sandals ($456)

Sleeper Mille Flats ($290)

Bottega Veneta Rubber Lido Sandals ($760)

You no longer have to wait for a rainy day to bust out the wellies. Fashion girls are wearing them on even the sunniest of days.

Shop wellies:

Bottega Veneta Puddle Rubber Ankle Boots ($650)

Hunter Refined Short Stitch Boots ($185)

Ganni Grosgrain-Trimmed Rubber Knee Boots ($285)

"Weird" Heel Shapes

Sculptural heels are the "weird" shoe trend that will start plenty of conversations and earn many compliments. I love that they add an interesting element to even the most basic of outfits.

Shop sculptural heels:

The Attico Lilac Devon Sandals ($556)

Zara Soft Leather Heeled Slides ($119)

Totême The Open Toe Mules ($600)

Chunky Loafers

Chunky loafers (especially when paired with crew socks) became quite popular in the fall and still feel fresh. Wear them with anything from miniskirts to denim.

Shop chunky loafers:

Prada Leather Loafers ($920)

Urban Outfitters Jules Chunky Loafers ($59)

Ganni Jewel Moc Toe Loafers ($375)
