If you've ever found yourself mesmerized by an inspiring account on social media, you're going to be hooked on @hausguerin. At age eight, Kaelyn Guerin decorated her first room using “a bed-in-a-bag from JCPenney,” the now 37-year-old recalls. “I’ve been putting my mark on spaces ever since.” Her grown-up style is welcoming and elegant, showcased from the Mississippi home where she broadcasts styling, shopping, and design tips through her design account, Haus Guerin. Guerin says, “Social media allows me to show how a well-designed space can work for a person and their family.”

Guerin’s road to becoming a style authority took some surprising turns—including a career in economics, a contract as a United States Marine officer, and a stint as a construction manager. "After commissioning, I deployed twice to Afghanistan, reading interior design blogs and every design magazine I could get my hands on during my time there," Guerin says.

Upon moving to Mississippi, Kaelyn decided to document the transition of her home and many home improvement projects through social media. After spending countless hours working with contractors to correct the various issues, Guerin chose to go back to school for construction management and become the solution she was struggling to find.

Today, her feed is stocked with glimpses into her home, all photographed in a sweeping and aspirational fashion that makes her audience feel excited to dive in themselves. “While I have zero regrets about the winding path my life has taken or the roads that led me here, I hope someone that looks like me sees me during their freshman or sophomore year of studies and pushes to finish what they started because a creative career is attainable as a person of color,” she says.

Q & A

House Beautiful: What’s a piece of advice that you would give your past self?

Kaelyn Guerin: Do post what resonates with you. Don’t do what everyone else is doing for the sake of gaining traction/views. Pick your style and create content that organically mirrors what you do to avoid burnout.

HB: What have you recently purchased as influenced by social media?

KG: Ah, my latest purchase is flowers from @gracerosefarm because, well, flowers. I have another cart pending with Schumacher for wallpaper for a bedroom refresh!

HB: Where do you love to shop for home decor online?

KG: I really started my foray into decor garage sales with my matriarchal grandmother (who passed in 2020) and still thrift at least once a week! I mostly shop curated thrift through friends I’ve met online via Instagram and Etsy.

HB: Are you excited about any projects in your home?

KG: Yes! The aforementioned wallpaper is for our bedroom. I want to really make it more of a sanctuary and less of a dumping ground. Added function, added pretty, and less of the heavier furniture we acquired in South Texas that is overwhelming the space.

HB: What accounts are most inspiring you right now?

KG: I’m overwhelmingly obsessed with @christopherai as a builder, @kellywearstler for all things brilliantly quirky from interiors to fashion, and @coreydamenjenkins because he is JUST perfection in regards to traditional interiors with a twist. There are other notable favorites, like Anastasia Casey and her podcast with the @theidentitecollective. I would be remiss to say that the Design Camp she co-founded with Lindsey Brook wasn’t the final push towards launching my firm and building HausGuerin LLC.
