Yes, Ree Drummond Was Once a Vegetarian

Yes, Ree Drummond Was Once a Vegetarian

This Sunday, The Pioneer Woman caught up with correspondent Alina Cho on CBS Sunday Morning in a segment filmed on the Drummond family's ranch in Pawhuska, Oklahoma. While we learned plenty of interesting intel about Mrs.Drummond — she adores musical theater star Ethel Merman, for one thing — one factoid really caught us by surprise.

"You know she was a vegetarian when you met her?" Cho asks Drummond's husband Ladd, who is also featured in the piece.

"Right," Ladd says with a nod. "I mean, that could have been a deal breaker," replies Cho. "It would have been. It probably would have been. 'Cuz there's just no way we could have survived 25 years with her not eating any steak," Ladd quips with a smile.

Clearly, her adherence to a vegetarian diet has long been abandoned, given her love for chicken, pork, and beef recipes. In fact, it was her post "How to Cook a Steak" on the Pioneer Woman blog that catapulted her rise to fame. Watch the CBS Sunday Morning interview below.

If you love Drummond's cooking, you've got a new cookbook from The Pioneer Woman to look forward to in October 2019. (Drummond is so excited, she's even been dropping some previews from the new collection of recipes on social media.)
