Season 4 of Yellowstone has finally begun — and we can confidently say it was, indeed, worth the wait.

When we say that the premiere episode on Sunday night was really something ... we really, really mean it. Right away during the two-hour event, we're thrown into action as Kayce (Luke Grimes), Beth (Kelly Reilly), Monica (Kelsey Asbille) and John (Kevin Costner) are all desperately fighting for their lives after being attacked. In the first 20 minutes alone, we see an epic gun battle ensue between Kayce and the attackers, Jimmy (Jefferson White) lying on the ground after being injured, Rip (Cole Hauser) racing to get John help, Tate shoot a man attacking his mom and a mangled Beth walk out and smoke a cigarette after her office goes up in flames. To be clear, all of this happened before the opening credits even rolled.

Needless to say, it was a lot. While the premiere episode eventually calmed down a little bit, it's clear that fans at home were totally caught off guard by the gruesome and action-packed start to season 4. "Finally. A reprieve with the opening credits. Raise your hand if you already need a group therapy session," the show tweeted after the first few minutes of the show. "Well that was 15 minutes of the most intense television I’ve ever seen," one person tweeted in response. "That's why I came to Twitter, for the emotional support," another said. "Every damn emotion you can have is what I’ve went through!!" a different fan wrote.

But the surprises didn't stop there. Right after the opening credits, fans were treated to a flashback where singer Tim McGraw portrays James Dutton. In the short scene, James confronts a group of Indigenous Americans who ask if they can bury their patriarch on the Dutton property. The scene, of course, serves as a tease for the upcoming Paramount+ prequel series 1883, which is set to come out on December 19.

While most fans loved all the action in the premiere, predictably there were some complaints ... but not really about the show itself. Apart from some taking issue with the amount of commercials during the premiere, there was a notable handful of Yellowstone fans confused about how to watch the new season, especially since the introduction of Paramount+ this spring.

In case you were among that handful, season 4 can be enjoyed on Paramount Network on Sunday nights at 8 p.m. ET this fall. To be clear, Yellowstone is not available to stream on Paramount+, even though the show airs on its cable network and it's the home of the upcoming spinoffs 1883 and Mayor of Kingstown. That said, you do still have a lot of options for watching season 4 of Yellowstone, including Amazon, Peacock, iTunes, Amazon, YouTube, Google Play or Vudu.

All in all, it looks like the premiere was a big hit. We can safely say that those who were angered by the season 4 delay this summer are no longer upset. So far, season 4 is delivering in every way possible.
