Microsoft will show off its upcoming games in this weekend’s Xbox Games Showcase. This time, however, there won’t be a 12-month release date promise for the show.

During last year’s showcase, the company promised all games shown would be released over the following 12 months. However, over 25% of the titles have missed that window.

The Xbox Showcase 2023 will have two hours of games

The 2023 Xbox Games Showcase and Starfield Direct will feature “roughly two hours of non-stop games, games, games, games, and Starfield!” according to Xbox Games Marketing VP Aaron Greenburg. When asked whether these games will be covered by the 12-month release date promise, Greenburg simply replied “no.”

Last year Microsoft claimed that everything that was shown at the 2022 showcase was “playable over the next 12 months.” The problem is that delays and complications have meant that more than 25% of those games missed that release window. While we can now play games like Diablo 4, Redfall, Minecraft Legends, the Resident Evil 4, Dead Space, and Overwatch 2, there are 13 games we still can’t play on Xbox Series X|S or Xbox One.

The list, compiled by The Loadout, includes:

  • ARK 2

  • Cocoon

  • Eiyuden Chronicle Hundred Heroes

  • Erban Shadow Legacy

  • Flintlock: Siege of Dawn

  • Forza Motorsport

  • Hollow Knight Silksong

  • Lightyear Frontier

  • Party Animals

  • S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2

  • Starfield

There are also games — such as Ara History Untold — that will just miss out on the 12-month window with its June 30 release date. Meanwhile, Warhammer 40K Darktide released on PC but has yet to see the light of day on console. As such, it seems as though Microsoft likely wants to avoid the same thing happening in 2023.
