The wrong name was accidentally called at the Baftas for Best Supporting Actress

Oh dear. The wrong name was called in the Best Supporting Actress category at the 2023 BAFTAs, when Carey Mulligan's name was said instead of Kerry Condon's. Is anyone else getting Oscar #envelopegate vibes?

While last week's The Brits saw the best talent across the music industry celebrated in all its glory, tonight's ceremony [19 February] is a celebration of all things British Film and TV.

Part of that involved an award for the Best Supporting Actress, which eventually went to Kerry Condon for her performance in The Banshees of Inisherin. While it wasn't shown in the TV edit (which was actually streamed about an hour behind the actual ceremony taking place), people at the ceremony took to Twitter to reveal a mishap meant Carey Mulligan – nominated in the category for She Said – was mistakenly announced as the winner.

Presenter Troy Kotsur nd his on-stage British Sign Language interpreter quickly corrected the error, inviting Kerry on-stage to pick up her award.

"BAFTAs edited out the Carey Mulligan, Kerry Condon mistake...boo," one person wrote on Twitter, while another in the room wrote, "Very awkward moment when Carey Mulligan’s name was read out instead of Kerry Condon. But Troy Kotsur made a quick recovery and aside from some puzzled looks in the audience, people seem to have largely moved on. #BAFTAs"

Someone else added, "Carey Mulligan was mistakenly announced as the Best Supporting Actress winner at the BAFTAs. Kerry Condon ended up winning the award."

Congratulations to Kerry, and we have no doubt Carey took it like a champ.
