Woody Harrelson and Rob Reiner held nothing back on their visit to BUILD Series NYC. The pair stopped by the online show to talk about their new film "LBJ." The film "LBJ" follows powerful Senate Majority Leader Lyndon B. Johnson (Woody Harrelson) after he loses the 1960 Democratic presidential nomination to Senator John F. Kennedy (Jeffrey Donovan). While talking about the film director Rob Reiner had a few things to say the current political situation in America and former president Barack Obama.
Reiner doesn't seem to be a big fan of President Donald Trump's leadership skills and like many other Americans, he feels we need a leader who understands government and how it works.
"You need a leader to really understand the nexus between government policy and politics and how all that works. To be in it enough and to be knowledgeable enough on how to move an agenda forward that takes a lot of talent."
Reiner didn't just talk about President Trump he also had a few things to say about former President Obama and the unjust way he was treated by government members and President Trump.
"I think Obama's problem and I hate to say this he was an African- American. That was a great thing to become a president the first time, but I think there were a lot of people that got very angry and they were going to do anything to thwart anything he did. When you think about what he was able to accomplish with everybody against him."
"I do believe that it was a backlash because he was the first African-American [ president ] and you found a guy [Trump] who comes along and starts delegitimizing him with the birther stuff and he unearths all this racism that's underneath that bubbles up to the surface and give him a voice."
Since President Trump took office it seems like America has been divided and according to Reiner, only one thing can bring us together.
"I do believe that with the right leader we can bring both sides together"
