A woman is struggling with her boyfriend’s parents’ unannounced visits

After moving in with him recently, his parents started to show up at their home without much notice. The issue is she hasn’t even met them yet. The girlfriend went on Reddit’s “Relationship Advice” forum for help.

“Twice now his parents have shown up unannounced, both times when I was not expecting guests and could not see them,” someone said. “Oh and I have not met them yet! Most recently it was my day off work and I had planned to sleep in, maybe ride my bike, maybe just watch Netflix in bed — whatever the case may be, it was my free day. At 10 a.m. my boyfriend (BF) came into the bedroom and woke me up to tell me his parents would be dropping by in 20 minutes! I was pretty annoyed and rolled back over to sleep, but thought maybe I should get up and get dressed and say hi. Apparently, they arrived when I was in the shower and they left with my BF to go shopping before I was dressed.”

Then her boyfriend accused her of being rude.

“My BF told me that he thought it was a bit rude of me to not say hi to his parents even though a) I had no idea they were visiting b) I was in the shower, attempting to get ready to be presentable to see them c) I was not even asked if I would be comfortable having two guests in our house at 10:30 a.m. on a weekday,” another wrote. “I’m worried he’s setting a precedent that I am not able to be comfortable in my own home and should expect visitors at any time of day.”

Reddit had mixed views on the subject.

“His parent’s behavior is outright aggressively unempathetic and controlling,” one user wrote

“Calling the parent’s behavior aggressively unempathetic and controlling at this stage is way too much. The boyfriend is the real problem,” another said

“I find it kind of rude that they did not even wait until you were out of the shower,” someone wrote
