Woman’s ‘genius’ money-saving wedding hack stuns TikTok: ‘I was a little hesitant about this’

It’s no secret that weddings are a pricey affair — but one TikToker’s tip promising to slash at least one major cost of the special day is creating excitement on the platform.

Laura Fragoso Hiller (@laurafragosohiller), a Texas UX designer and wedding videographer who has racked up over 63,000 TikTok followers with her wedding hack videos, shared a cost-cutting tip she used for her own big day — getting a wedding cake from Sam’s Club for under $70.

Auto insurance rates are increasing in 2022 — here’s how to prepare

“Hear me out,” Hiller began her video. “I was a little bit hesitant about this myself when my friend suggested it to me back when I was getting married. Then I ended up doing it and it turned out beautiful.”

“Sam’s Club makes three-tiered cakes that feed about 75 people, and they cost a little under $70,” she continued. “So the price is fantastic.”

While she noted the budget retailer’s website does a “terrible job” advertising the cakes, she urged her viewers not to be turned off by the store’s own photos, as the cakes are customizable.

“Order it plain white …. Buy some pretty flowers from H.E.B. or Trader Joe’s, and you make them look like this,” Hiller explained, showcasing photos of the cake’s true potential. “And if you need to feed more than 75 people, then get a normal white sheet cake, leave it in the back and have them cut it up and bring it out if more pieces are needed.”

Jordyn Woods says her Instagram isn’t real life:

According to The Knot, the average wedding cake in the U.S. costs around $500. Of course, this figure varies greatly, depending on the number of tiers, the number of people you need to feed, the type of cake and your location.

Still, it’s hard not to think of $70 as mind-blowing in comparison — and TikTokers seem to agree.

“Saving this even tho I’m 18 and don’t have a Sam’s membership,” one user wrote.

“This is genius!!” commented another user. “Please post more affordable wedding tips!”

“My sister did Sam’s Club cupcakes for her,” commented a third. “It was a huge hit.”

Even Sam’s Club chimed in to agree.

“Gonna look past the advertising and floral jabs because the cake tip is legit,” the company’s account wrote.

Still, a few users suggested trying to buy from smaller, local businesses for those with the budget.
