Woman Loses Cherished Memento of Deceased Daughter. Can the Internet Help Her Find It?

For the past four years, Consuela Brown had worn a precious locket around her neck. The necklace contains locks of hair from Chloe, her 10-year-old daughter who died because of a tragic accident in 2013. Brown, a resident of Statesboro, Ga., was visiting Jekyll Island off the state’s southern coast when she discovered she had lost the necklace somewhere near the parking lot of the island’s Driftwood Beach.

Upon realizing her priceless object was gone, she turned to Facebook:

In a perhaps surprising turn involving social media — where people seem to far too willing to shame, troll, and harass one another — people have instead been displaying only supportive spirit on behalf of Brown. With nearly 13,000 shares and over 200 comments, Brown’s plea for assistance is showing how social media can actually be put to good use.

As Brown told the local WTOC news station, she has been overwhelmed with the outpouring of responses. “I think people need more good news, and if I don’t get my daughter’s locket back, I am already blessed by the inferno of caring hearts,” Brown said.

In addition to WTOC news, the story has been picked up by multiple local news stations and websites.

With all the good Samaritans chiming in, we hope her priceless memento is soon retrieved, safe and sound.
