The Victor Valley Sheriff’s Station reported that at 6:42 p.m. on Monday, Sgt. R. Rios was patrolling near Madera and Danbury avenues when he heard a traffic collision nearby.

Sgt. Rios witnessed a white Chevrolet truck leaving the area at a high rate of speed after hitting a power pole.

The driver of the truck, later identified as Rose Rachel Ruffin of Hesperia, continued east on Danbury Avenue, then north on Peach Street at a high rate of speed.

Sgt. Rios activated lights and sirens, but Ruffin refused to stop, instead accelerating at speeds of more than 85 mph through residential neighborhoods.

Ruffin continued approximately 2.1 miles, running stop signs and showing complete disregard for public safety, sheriff’s officials said.

Ruffin eventually ran a stop sign and crashed into an occupied residence on Devon Street. The truck came to rest inside the kitchen of the residence, injuring a resident, who was treated at the scene, according to sheriff’s officials.

Ruffin exited her truck and led deputies on a foot pursuit through residential yards before she entered an occupied residence and attempted to hide in a bathroom.

After a short standoff, while barricaded inside the bathroom, Ruffin was arrested without further incident. Her actions put many lives in danger, authorities said.

Ruffin is currently being held without bail at the West Valley Detention Center in Rancho Cucamonga on suspicion of vehicle theft, evading a peace officer with disregard for public safety, and hit and run causing death or injury, booking records show.

She is scheduled to appear Wednesday and Friday in Victorville Superior Court.

Sheriff’s officials did not say if drugs and/or alcohol were a factor in the incident.

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information on the incident is asked by the Sheriff’s Department to contact Sgt. M. Rios at the Victor Valley Sheriff’s Station at 760-552-6800.
