Who will walk Meghan Markle down the aisle? The internet has some wild ideas and a clear frontrunner!
The royal wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle is just days away, and while we’re counting down, the drama is heating up.
This week we learned that Meghan’s father, Thomas Markle, will not be attending his daughter’s wedding. Thomas was slated to walk Meghan down the aisle, but he backed out after allegedly staging paparazzi photos. He also suffered a heart attack last week. Thomas told TMZ he would skip the wedding to save his daughter any more “embarrassment.”
Kensington Palace released a statement Monday regarding Meghan’s father. “This is a deeply personal moment for Ms. Markle in the days before her wedding. She and Prince Harry ask again for understanding and respect to be extended to Mr. Markle in this difficult situation.”
With only days to go before the big day, Meghan’s father left a gaping hole in the preparations. Who will walk the future royal down the aisle?
The internet, of course, had some thoughts on who should replace Thomas, and we have to say, they’re pretty creative. Some people think that Meghan’s Suits dad, Wendell Pierce, should step in — several of the cast members are reportedly attending the nuptials.
Lot of speculation now who will walk Meghan Markle down the aisle on Saturday. I mean, are we kidding? It has to be Robert Zane pic.twitter.com/rj64ZcWjdn

Why doesn’t Wendell Pierce come to Meghan Markle’s rescue & walk her down the aisle since her Dad won’t be there to? #RoyalWedding2018 #MeghanMarkle #HarryAndMeghan

All this talk of Meghan Markle’s dad’s will he/won’t he be at the wedding. I keep picturing Robert Zane.

Others think Prince Harry’s pal Barack Obama should step in! They, of course, aren’t taking into account that the Obama family did not get an invitation to the wedding because the betrothed couple chose to exclude most political leaders, but the idea came from the right place.
Choosing to believe that real plan all along has been for @BarackObama to magically appear and walk #MeghanMarkle down the aisle.

How Great would it be for Obama to walk Meghan Markle down the aisle!

President Obama should. He is welcome in the UK. I still hope her father changes his mind.

I’m low key hoping @BarackObama will step in and walk Meghan Markle down the aisle on Saturday since her father can’t.

The feminist side of the internet wants Meghan to go it alone down the aisle, and, honestly, this is something she just might do. The actress is, after all, a longtime advocate for gender equality.
Or… what a strange idea… she could WALK HERSELF. (The days of someone “giving away” the bride are over.”

#MeghanMarkle should walk down the aisle alone. She is strong and modern. Even if her dad does attend. #RoyalWedding @KensingtonRoyal @byEmilyAndrews

A true women's rights campaigner would not need anyone to "Give her away" especially as she's already been given away at a previous wedding anyway.
Be a modern woman #MeghanMarkle !
Make the walk alone.— Anthea Lanesborough (@lanesborough77) May 15, 2018
Meghan Markle can easily have her mom walk her down the aisle, or better yet, walk alone down the aisle & give herself away to Harry. She's a grown woman. I walked down the aisle alone & it was exhilarating. Meghan would be a vision of strength for women everywhere. #RoyalWedding https://t.co/8K3G0lqjPf

Another nontraditional approach has also gained steam on the internet. Some want Prince Harry and Meghan to arrive together and walk down the aisle arm in arm. Other royal weddings have opted for this, including that of Queen Máxima and King Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands in 2002 and Prince Haakon and Princess Mette-Marit of Norway in 2001.
How about Prince Harry? That would be awesome… arrive together to be married!

If her dad is a no-show Meghan could certainly walk solo. I'd also love to see #HarryandMeghan follow the Swedish tradition and walk in together. Harry said that whatever happens they're a team. Well team H&M can take center stage Saturday. #RoyalWedding https://t.co/ute9dBfCEu

While I’m quite certain it will never happen, I really love the practice of a couple entering the church together. This was the case when Queen Máxima married King WA and her father was actually barred from attending the ceremony. One can dream, right? pic.twitter.com/iqGVpzNatY

Crown Prince Haakon and Mette-Marit also entered the church together. pic.twitter.com/iopztKRIKD

But there’s one clear frontrunner in all these suggestions for who should have the honor of walking Meghan down the aisle. Many people would love to see her mother, Doria Ragland, walk with her daughter.
It's 2018 FFS. If Meghan Markle’s mom Doria Ragland is the most supportive person in her life & her dad won't be there, then her mother should walk her down the aisle. Wouldn't be the first mom to do so. Two beautiful ladies. ☺#RoyalWedding #MeghanMarkle pic.twitter.com/0komjl0Nm4

Just thinking out loud but is it just me but how POWERFUL a statement would it be if Meghan Markle's mother was to walk her up the aisle? #RoyalWedding2018

Meghan’s mother please. She can break tradition in more ways than one. ✊

While the palace has not confirmed who, if anyone, will replace Thomas Markle, several reports suggest that Doria will take his place. Thomas himself told TMZ that Doria would be a good choice to assume the role of giving away the bride.
