Will Emily Ratajkowski’s Crop Top Get Bernie Sanders Votes?

Hillary Clinton might have Lena Dunham, Demi Lovato, and Katy Perry on her political girl squad, but the Berne Sanders campaign has Emily Ratajkowski.

The model and actress, who found fame for dancing topless in a Robin Thicke music video, is, in a very unlikely career twist, emerging as one of millennials’ favorite women’s rights advocates. In addition to being a staunch supporter of Planned Parenthood (she even designed a dress with proceeds from sales benefiting the organization), the California girl took time to stump for Sanders.

In New Hampshire ahead of the state’s primary on Tuesday, the 24-year-old spoke at a rally at a local community college. Despite heavy snow and freezing temps (she praised attendees for making the trek to see her), Ratajkowski, Hollywood’s current archetypal “hot girl,” still showed some skin (even though she’s campaigning just as furiously as a politician to change that perception). She wore burgundy flare pants with a pink crop-top sweater. The turtleneck was designed for her by Grant Doolittle from Grant Knits with Caroline Stinger and help from Ratajkowski herself. The company has had an amazing response to the piece so far, and the item is being sold as part of a limited run for $225.

Ratajkowski spoke to a large crowd encouraging young people — and especially women — to vote for the Vermont senator. “So I am a young woman, and um, well, just to make one thing clear: I’m here because I support Bernie Sanders. I’m not here for the boys,” the Gone Girl star said to a crowd on Monday, taking a jab at Gloria Steinem and Madeleine Albright, who both recently shamed female voters who don’t support Hillary Clinton.

But as she explained in her three-minute speech, just because she #FeelstheBern doesn’t mean she’s antifeminist. “I want a female president so that one day I can say to my daughter, ‘You too can be president.’ I believe in that symbolic importance. But I have seen symbolism in this election, symbolism that fails the people that so desperately need the action to make change,” she said. “I want my first female president to be more than a symbol — I want her to have politics that can revolutionize.”

Ratajkowski emphasized Sanders’s platform, recognizing that the Democratic candidate offers action without the aid of corporations and special interests, programs such as universal health care and childcare and proposals to fix the broken economic system and improve racial relations with a demilitarized police force. “He gives us hope for equality. We haven’t had a candidate like Bernie Sanders in a long time, and we might not see the likes of him again. This is our moment. This is the time. 2016.”

While the “Blurred Lines” babe claimed that the race to the White House isn’t about “who you’d want to hang out with,” the cheering group of admirers made it clear they’d vote for Sanders — for more face time with Ratajkowski.
