What’s the word on the street? Berets are back in style (yet again). The French-origin hat is undergoing a resurgence thanks to the high-fashion catwalk — making us think it’s high time to jump on this trend.
The beret was first popularized by stylish Old Hollywood actresses like Brigitte Bardot and Catherine Deneuve in the ’60s. Now, pop-star icons like Rihanna have brought it back into the limelight. At the Christian Dior show in Paris earlier this month, both RiRi and the Dior models wore the brand’s new sleek black leather berets.
And Dior wasn’t the only show where berets made a comeback. The simple and chic hat was also spotted at Giorgio Armani, Maison Margiela, and Wanda Nylon during Fashion Week.
The beret’s timelessness is bolstered by its frequency both on the runway and on stylish celebrities. If you recall, Saint Laurent introduced its rocker-style embellished beret covered in lightning bolt pins and stars in 2015, while Alessandro Michele similarly sent models down his Gucci Fall/Winter 2015 runway wearing brightly colored and striped berets. Fashion icons like Diane Kruger and Chloë Sevigny have both worn the beret out on several occasions.
Perhaps it’s time for you to jump on the bandwagon and snag one for yourself. In fact, according to Polyvore, searches for berets have spiked a staggering 51 percent within the past three months.
