Why ‘Star Trek’ fans are loving and hating the new ‘Discovery’ TV show

Star Trek: Discovery? Let’s call it Star Trek: Diversity because the new series is boldly going where no trek series has gone before. In the first episode, we were introduced to the USS Shenzhou’s Captain Phillippa Georgiou (Michelle Yeoh) and her first officer, Michael Burnham (Sonequa Martin-Green). Based off of Twitter reactions, fans are loving the fact that Discovery is being led by two kick ass women from underrepresented demographics. https://twitter.com/GocLiveTweets/status/912126402023051264 https://twitter.com/xlovelucy/status/912121900675080192 While the majority of the response was positive, some fans were also upset that in order to continue watching the show, they’ll have to download CBS’s “All Access” app, where the series intends to live long and prosper. Another major difference in this Star Trek series is that it’s the first to run solely on a digital platform. https://twitter.com/nosoupforgeorge/status/912131760095354880 https://twitter.com/Durward_/status/912132759044415489 However, it is worth noting that, in this new era, cord-cutting is increasingly popular and we’re fairly confident that those who truly love the series will end up giving in to the $5.99/ month subscription. Especially if they’re klinging on to that cliffhanger like we are!
