It's no secret that Prince Harry and Prince William's relationship has weakened somewhat over the last few years, with their once close bond now reduced to far and few between meetings at royal engagements. But, what actually caused the rift between the pair has been a cause for speculation amongst many royal fans and experts alike. Now however, a new book claims to have unveiled the moment that triggered the feud, and apparently it's all to do with how William reacted to his brother dating now-wife, Meghan Markle.

In his book, Brothers And Wives: Inside The Private Lives of William, Kate, Harry And Meghan, author Christopher Andersen spoke to anonymous royal insiders to get a better understanding of the brother's disagreement. According to a Page Six report, which took a deep-dive into the new book, palace insiders claimed that Prince William was not impressed by how quickly things were progressing with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.

But, what really drove a wedge between the pair apparently was the Duke of Cambridge's reported decision to get Princess Diana's brother, Earl Spencer, involved. In his book, Andersen alleges that William enlisted Earl Spencer to tell Harry that he also thought things needed to slow down between him and Meghan – which didn't go down too well. The author writes that William's involvement made "matters far worse," with Harry "furious that his brother was actively seeking to have others interfere in his personal affairs." The situation, reportedly, resulted in Harry getting "angry" with anyone he felt was "against Meghan."

While Andersen's book is yet to be released (it comes out tomorrow, 30 November), Page Six reveals that the author claims Prince William was also concerned about how Meghan's family might damage the Royal Family's reputation. According to Andersen, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were "alarmed" by the claims made by Meghan’s estranged half-siblings, Samantha and Thomas Jr., that she would not be a welcome addition to the Windsor family.

"I don’t know what to believe," the book claims William told a close confidant, also alleging that he went to Prince Charles with his concerns, telling him that Harry's "obsession" with Meghan was "like something I’d never seen" and that he felt as though he'd "lost" his best friend.

Despite the alleged drama, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle went on to wed in 2018.
