Jennifer Grey revealed the poignant reason she weeps whenever she watches her 1987 hit, 'Dirty Dancing.'

It might be more than 35 years since Dirty Dancing came out, but for Jennifer Grey, every time she watches the movie, it feels like it was yesterday.

Which is why Grey couldn't hold in her emotions during a recent appearance on a morning show, where a Dirty Dancing clip played.

"It gets me every time," she said to People of her emotional reaction to the scene.

She went on, describing how any time she watches the movie, it takes her back to when she filmed it with her late co-star, Patrick Swayze.

She said, "It feels like I'm living it when I'm watching it. And then I'm realizing that Patrick [Swayze] is gone."

Swayze passed away from pancreatic cancer in 2009 at the age of 57.

Speaking with The Guardian about her relationship with Swayze when they starred in Dirty Dancing, Grey said, "Patrick was a really good guy and really cared about me. He was always there for me and I would’ve done anything for him…but we were also a little oil and water."

But she believes that this only made their on-screen performance better: "The difference was beautiful because it created a kind of static. There’s a push and pull. We were both trying to assert ourselves.”

This would explain why the iconic romance film is still a big part of pop culture, with a sequel reportedly on the way. Lionsgate announced last summer that the film will come out in early 2024, so be sure to dust off your dancing shoes.

Grey wants to be involved, but she declared that she will only do the film if they "get it right" and honor Swayze correctly.

She noted, "We're not giving up any dates at the moment because...really, what I'm doing, my whole job with this, is to get it right, get it really right, in Patrick's honor, in honor of all of the fans' relationship with the movie."

Unfortunately, there have been no more updates about the film in recent months. So, we'll have to wait to have the time of our lives again.
