Why Jeffree Star’s Makeup Palette May Be Your New Cult Favorite
Jeffree Star, for the uninitiated, is tough to pin down: His throwback MySpace origins earned him a fervent following for his punk-pop electronica, his androgynous, candy-colored hair and makeup, and his wonderfully in-your-face cross-dressing queerness. “I knew I was gay, since like fifth grade,” he told LA Weekly back in 2007, when his own makeup line was just a glimmer in his glitter-dusted eye.

He’d launch Jeffree Star Cosmetics with a bang in 2014 — after releasing his studio LP “Beauty Killer” (“If I can’t be beautiful, I’d rather just die,” it starts out); getting tatted by Kat Von D; trying out gigs as a MAC salesperson, Kelly Osbourne’s makeup artist, and a model; and kicking off a YouTube channel that’s made him a bona fide beauty-tutorial star both there and on Instagram, where he’s got 1.4 million devotees.
Makeup, after all, seems to be where Star’s heart lies — his mom was a model, he’s noted, and he began sneaking into her makeup bag in his adolescence when she went off to work. “I finally convinced my mom to let me wear makeup to school in junior high,” he told LA Weekly. Good thing, too, as it seems to have unleashed an artist and, subsequently, legions of fans who have been known to buy out his new lip products in 20 minutes flat.

“Liquid lipstick junkies know that Jeffree Star’s Velour Liquid Lipsticks is basically the pinnacle of cool, under-the-radar yet still somehow cult-favorite products,” gushed the Gloss this week.
And now, according to a Wednesday Instagram tease, his company is making a foray into eye shadow, with a palette set for a May release.
“Our first ever eyeshadow palette will be launching MAY 25TH!!!! We’re SO excited to finally announce this!!!!!” noted the caption. “The palette is called BEAUTY KILLER™ 10 jaw-dropping shades! Vegan. Cruelty-free. HIGHLY pigmented. Sneak peeks and videos coming soon!!”
Bustle’s beauty writer immediately noted, “I am pretty sure that I am already in love with it.”
