Why Border Collies Make For The Best Trail Dogs

Instagram

There is no better riding partner than man's best friend, but what breed of dog makes the best trail companion? Well, if you ask Pierre Soriot he would tell you it's his border collie.

Take a look at the two rallying a jump line together in the video below.

As excited as that dog is, it does look like there are a few kinks that need to be worked out in terms of it actually following Pierre while he rides as opposed to standing in landings looking delighted just to be involved.

That being said, training a trail dog can be tough and is oftentimes a lot more involved than most people think. Yes, it is the stereotypical "mountain biker's dream" to load up your bike and dog in the Tacoma and head to the local zone for a rip.

However, it is often a lot more inconvenient and involved to ride with a trail dog. Don't let my negativity deter you, but at least in my experience, you spend more time stopping and dog-wrangling than actually riding and a four-legged friend severely limits the types of trails you can go ride with your rig in tow.
