Laundry is an unavoidable part of everyone's cleaning routine. But Patric Richardson, host of HGTV’s latest series Laundry Guy, is bringing some joy and lightheartedness to this sometimes tedious chore.

Since middle school, Richardson has had a knack for doing laundry, a passion he picked up from his grandmother. Over the past couple of years the Minnesotan has become well-known for his "laundry camps," which always sell out quickly.

"I always say you do laundry for the people you love," Richardson said in a press statement. "Laundry is a kind of love language. It's a privilege that I get to wash these things for my clients."

On Richardson’s show, which premiered last week on HGTV, he shares his tried and true tips to help clients revive some of their most cherished items. One of his more outlandish tips is using vodka to remove any unwanted smells that might find their way onto your clothing. Yep, you heard that right: The same substance used to mix up a martini can also clean soiled clothes.

“You can spray your gym bag with vodka; if you go to your favorite restaurant and you leave [smelling like food], you can spray that with vodka; If you stand next to a smoker, you can spray that with vodka,” Richardson told Apartment Therapy in an interview this week.

Vodka's effectiveness comes from its high alcohol content, which helps to neutralize orders while at the same time disinfecting them. So forget your bar cart: It might be time for all of us to buy a bottle of vodka for our laundry cupboard, just like our new favorite laundry expert recommends.
