  • During a recent live stream, Drake attempted to gift a viewer almost $500.

  • However, the stream's audience watched as Drake's card got declined.

  • Drake shrugged off the "embarrassing" moment, but the clip has since gone viral.

In the chorus of Meek Mill's "Going Bad" from 2018, Drake utters,"I just... what? I just... uh, put a Richard on the card." (According to the annotators at Genius, the Richard in question is Richard Mille, the Swiss watch brand founded in 1999 and known for timepieces ranging from $100,000 to upwards of $1 million.)

Of course, that was Drake's 2018, a year Andrew R. Chow at NBC News called "one of the most dominant years of any pop star—perhaps ever." As for 2023 Drake? Well, we all just found out that that charge card does indeed have a limit, and Drake won't be putting any Richards on it any time soon...

From that video, it might look like Drake and rapper Lil Yachty hanging out on a live stream, trying to tip a woman streaming herself getting her feet rubbed and then facing a declined credit card—but you must realize there's more to it. Two successful music artists surely wouldn't broadcast themselves having a moment that, if it happened to any of us, we'd call "hitting rock bottom."

And there is an explanation that makes it all make sense. You see, Drake and rapper Lil Yachty were hanging out on a live stream, trying to tip a woman streaming herself getting her feet rubbed, but then the credit card got declined, all to promote a sports gambling site. See? Now it's totally cool and not at all weird.

As the Toronto Sun puts it:

"Over the weekend, Drake was taking part in a Kick live stream to promote the online gambling site Stake with fellow rapper Lil Yachty when his card was declined in front of thousands of viewers."

A Stake user named Daisy, who in the clip can be seen getting a foot rub, got Drake and Lil Yachty's attention (who can say why?), and the "Hotline Bling" singer wanted to send her "a $499 tip." However, TD Bank intervened in much the same way an adult son has to when a freshly-divorced dad is going through a rough patch: it refused to let him send nearly $500 to a foot girl on the internet.

"Embarrassing!" Drake responded in a sing-song voice, but in truth, this was probably for the best. This awkward livestream moment likely brings more attention to the gambling site trying to promote itself than a successful transaction would have. Plus, Drake saved $500 on the whole ordeal—which he should really hang on to because when it comes to gambling, the guy has been racking up L's left and right. So maybe his bank did Drake a solid, you know?
