Jared Johnson dishes out why he thinks Spurs' Derrick White is someone that should be on your radar as the fantasy playoffs near.
JARED JOHNSON: Derrick White showed signs of snapping out of his season-long shooting funk on Monday, dropping 19 points on 7-of-11 shooting in a loss to the Kings, adding three triples, three boards, one assist, and one steal over 32 minutes. He's had a tough time finding his footing this season, as he got off to a delayed start due to an off-season toe procedure, and then again missed a string of games due to the health and safety protocols. But March was his best month yet, as he averaged 1.2 swats and 2.1 triples per game, which is fantasy gold when coming from the guard position.
Now, it's true that White has been shooting a career-worst 38.2% from the field this season. But as a career 45.5% shooter, you have to assume he'll figure it out soon enough. Remember, it was only eight months ago that White was lighting it up in the bubble against some of the top teams in the league. So I don't doubt he could be that guy again as he gets more comfortable on the court.
White is one of the few players in the league who can realistically flirt with 5X5 stat lines. And with some improved percentages and just a bit more dimes, he could easily work his way into the top 50 equation.
