The rapper-to-movie-star pipeline surprisingly never disappoints. Just look at Will Smith's entire career, Ice Cube in Friday, Eminem in 8 Mile, Queen Latifah in Set it Off, Cam'ron in Pain in Full, or Kid 'n Play in the '90s cult comedy classic, House Party. All beloved films with lead actors who got their start in music. Thankfully, for the upcoming reboot of 1992's White Men Can't Jump—helmed by Lil Nas X's "Old Town Road" music video director, Calmatic—the tradition stays alive.

His White Men Can't Jump reboot, starring "First Class" rapper Jack Harlow, will hit Hulu on May 19. The film will also feature appearances from Lance Reddick, Teyana Taylor, Sinqua Walls, Laura Harrier, and Vince Staples. "They let yoga instructors into the gym now?" Staples jokes when when Harlow walks in the gym in first trailer for the film. "They gonna kill him in the parking lot." The rest of the preview shows Harlow in his full, hooping glory, trading barbs with Walls's character, Kamal. Check out the trailer for White Men Can't Jump below.

In an interview with with Esquire, Calmatic spoke about how the production team never second guessed offering the lead in White Men Can't Jump to the first-time actor. The original White Men Can't Jump film starred Woody Harrelson and Wesley Snipes. "I've always been a fan of Jack," Calmatic said, revealing that an intern suggested him for the role and everyone unanimously agreed, saying "Oh shit, that actually might work." Soon, it won't be long before we can witness the "What's Poppin'" rapper's acting chops for ourselves.

Harlow recently appeared in a New Balance commercial opposite NBA star Kawhi Leonard, as well as an episode hosting Saturday Night Live! back in October. "Man, listen, after this film, I don't think Jack Harlow is going to be a rapper," Calmatic told Esquire. "I mean, I'm sure he is not going to give up rap, but he's definitely going to be a Mark Wahlberg—where I think people are going to know him more for acting than his music. There's no reason why he shouldn't be in two movies a year. He's that great. And so I'm happy that he got his feet wet with White Men Can't Jump so I can take a little responsibility for that. I'm excited for the world to see him and get the full scope of him as an artist."
