The fifth and final season of Top Boy is here and Sully, Dushane, Jaq and the rest of the Summerhouse Estate are back to find out who will be crowned the real top boy of London.
The Netflix drama follows notorious drug gangs in east London and the crime, violence, money and murder that surrounds them. But, where is Top Boy filmed and is Summerhouse Estate a real place?
Where is Top Boy filmed?
Top Boy is set in Hackney, East London, with the series being filmed across parts of London. The majority of filming takes place in the borough of Hackney in areas like Haggerston, London Fields and Dalston plus parts of the Newham borough such as Stratford.
Is Summerhouse Estate a real place?
Summerhouse Estate is fictional, but, the building used to film is very real!
Originally, the Heygate Estate in Elephant and Castle, South London was the original location for the Summerhouse Estate and was used for the exteriors for the first two seasons (they're the ones that first came out on Channel 4, you can watch them under Top Boy: Summerhouse on Netflix).
Unfortunately, the building was demolished in 2014 to make way for new developments as a part of a 'regeneration' project. Now, the Samuda Estate on the Isle of Dogs is the new Summerhouse. Even some of the interiors, such as the characters bedrooms, were filmed on the estate as locals offered up their flats for the shoot.
Similar scenes have been shot on the De Beauvoir estate in Hackney, which is reportedly the real life inspiration for Summerhouse Estate.
