Amazon Prime Video's Three Pines is a murder mystery show based on a series of novels featuring the character Chief Inspector Armand Gamache. Alfred Molina plays the lead role and is joined by Rossif Sutherland as Jean-Guy Beauvoir and Elle-Maija Tailfeathers as Isabelle Lacoste, both of whom are key members of Gamache's investigative team. The settings make fans wonder where Three Pines is filmed: The series is set in the fictional town of Three Pines, located in the Eastern Townships of Quebec, Canada.

Where is Three Pines filmed?

While the show is based in a fictional town, it is believed that the Three Pines is based on author Louise Penny's hometown, Knowlton. The village is located in the town of Brome Lake in Southern Quebec. It is home to only a few thousand people and has a popular tourism industry due to skiing in the winter and its lakes in the summer.

The town also boasts its connections to the novels. Canada's Eastern Townships website lists several locations connected with the Gamache novels, including the Abbey of St. Benoit du Lac (below), Brome Lake Books and some of the local bistros.

The town also hosts a guided tour that will take visitors to locations that apparently inspired the author's works.

According to Amazon Studios, the show Three Pines was filmed in Montreal and rural Quebec.

At the time, Amazon Studio's head of Canadian Originals Christina Wayne said, "With Three Pines we continue to grow our slate of local originals, and overall investment in Canada. The series will be our first locally produced scripted drama, and we are thrilled to work with Left Bank to bring these layered characters, unique setting, and masterfully constructed mysteries that Louise created to Prime Video. Alfred Molina perfectly embodies the cerebral and compassionate nature of Gamache, and leads a tremendous cast.”
