The only thing getting us through these frigid winter days is the realization that spring break is just around the corner. Which means that our days will soon be filled with relaxation, sun and oh, so much fun.
Since most of us take spring break in March, Yahoo Travel conducted a survey of more than 2,000 people to see where they’re headed this year. According to our results, only 27 percent of those surveyed plan to take a trip for spring break. Looks, like we need to step up our game and get more of you motivated to hit the road.
For those of you who will be taking in some R&R, more than a third (35 percent) plan to venture to a beach or tropical resort. As one of our survey takers said, “I think anywhere with a beach is perfect,” and we couldn’t agree more. Other respondents were more specific, pinpointing Paradise Island in the Bahamas and Myrtle Beach, S.C., as their preferred destinations.

So, we know that a third of you will be on the beach, but what about the rest? Seventeen percent of survey takers said they plan to take a cruise for spring break. Looking for a hot spot? The Mexican Riviera is becoming increasingly popular due to its affordability. If you leave from Los Angeles, Carnival offers a four-day cruise to Mexico starting at just $203 per person.
Rounding out the top three destinations, 12 percent of those surveyed plan to visit a theme park this spring. If you’re an adrenaline junkie, Carowinds in Charlotte, N.C., is auctioning off the first rides on Fury 325, which will open on March 25. Fury 325 is touted as the world’s tallest and fastest giga coaster.

Our survey found that different groups have different preferences. Those 35 and older are more likely to want to visit Europe. And, as you would expect, men are more likely to go to baseball spring training camps.
