Chef Dominique Ansel loves to travel. His passion for food and curiosity about the world has taken him from a poor boy in northern France to celebrated pastry wunderkind in New York City. The chef recently released his first cookbook and continues to discover new things and places. From his eponymous bakery, which saw crazy cronut lines, he shared a new holiday creation with us — the truffle cookie gift set.

“Truly great creations transport us to another time by making a connection that transcends the present,” as Ansel said in his book, The Secret Recipes. ”The cookie is the ultimate time traveller.”
Our verdict? Chewy, rich deliciousness that you can take home and bake yourself. Meantime, here are Dominique’s five favorite travel locations:
Favorite Holiday Destination
Suleymaniye mosque on the Golden Horn of Istanbul (Thinkstock)
Istanbul — it’s a city that is such a perfect blend of east and west. Being right by the Bosphorus, you get wonderful resort weather and you can also absorb the culture of the city and not just have it be a beach town.
Favorite Place to Get Dessert
Sampling ice cream in Hokkaido (Ernesto Huang/Flickr)
I love the warm, fresh madeleines we make to order here at the bakery. And I adore the soft-serve ice creams you can find everywhere in Hokkaido.
Favorite Spot in New York City
Bemelmans Bar (Photo: The Carlyle)
I’m loving this one section in the High Line more and more in the early summer time, where they have the wooden lawn chairs that roll on the tracks. In the winter months, it’s nice to stay indoors and listen to the live music at Bemelmans Bar in the Carlyle.

Hong Kong International Airport has some majorly good choices for food, from simple wonton noodles and congee to authentic dim sum.
