What's Your Fancy?: Gray Malin Shares His Globetrotting Favorites

"When you’re young and an artist, you don’t just get a book handed to you—you have to work for it," says Gray Malin. And he'd know; Malin has made a name for himself as a travel photographer and lifestyle guru (and dog whisperer) whose aerial photos of locations like St. Tropez and Positano are snapped up for art collections, hang on the walls at boutique hotels, and are emblazoned on home goods—not to mention endlessly reposted on Instagram. Malin's authored four books—including Beaches, Escape, and Italy—but this year's Gray Malin: The Essential Collection just might be his favorite.

"It’s a retrospective of the first decade of my career; it starts in 2008 with black-and-white film work, which I studied in high school and continued working with through college and goes all the way through to 2018," he says. "It’s a whimsical, joyful book that celebrates the essence of who I am as a photographer. My work is meant to be timeless and make any home feel a little bit happier—so this book is a dream come true."
