Your blood pressure doesn't get lowered if you are forced to listen to music you dislike.
Years ago, one of our employees pressed to have jazz played - and suggested that we alternate with each persons' preferences through a week's trial. (Not a customer area) Several of the other employees loathed the music he brought in, and there was constant tension. It got solved when one of them brought in opera for a whole day, and another brought in old time country-western - music HE could not stand. We went back to miscellaneous elevator music, and then they were allowed to use headsets if they wanted.
And don't mention having to listen to the bass vibration from your neighbors' home or apartment.
My fondest memory of my (late) father revolves around The Beatles' "For Sale" album. My dad at one point bought all of The Beatles' LPs and we'd sit and listen to them in our living room, but "For Sale" was the one we'd listen to the most.
He'd say things like "you hear that sound? That's a bass guitar and Paul plays that" or "That part is called a 'lead' and George plays that while John plays the other Guitar parts". I always thought that happened sometime in Autumn, but as an adult, I realized it was just my memory of that album's cover, which was shot at a park in London, in autumn. To this day, Autumn is my favorite season and with due reason - my dad was born in September, my son in October and my wife in November (I don't know how that ties together with this article and music, but I think it somehow does every time I hear "No Reply", I completely lose myself in memories of my dad and no matter what is going on, I become "grounded"). Thanks Dad, John, Paul, George and Ringo.
I discovered music had the ability to transport me to another reality at a very early age. It's still my drug of choice.
It would be a boring world without music and books.
Music is therapy for body and soul. It can relief stresses of the day or it can rejuvenate your spirit. You can be soothed by it's presence or you can dance around the house with it's exuberance. It can bring back memories or create new ones. It can boost creativity within yourself or it can let you mellow in serene comfort. All of which when you are in the mood for letting yourself go ....with the music. I am learning to play the organ. For me to play music which I have had no experience or knowledge is by far one of the greatest personal achievements in my life. My mood positive, my willingness to learning more greatly improves, my skin tingles, and my heart beats to the rhythm of my playing. I love music and I always will.
My fiancé tells me how he listens to Podcasts and audiobooks when he is in his car. Whenever I am in his car, I hook up my music, the other day he said, "You know, the only time I listen to music in my car, is when you are in here with me." I looked at him like he had 5 heads and said, "What is wrong with you?! Music makes me happy! How do you not listen to it?!" I listen to music almost all day long. I prefer music over television because I can do work around the house or whatever and have music playing to keep me in the right mood. Just last night I was dancing around the house, no music playing or anything and my fiancé says, "What are you doing?" I said, "I'm dancing, I've always got music playing in my head!" He laughed.
Sorry, Yahoo, but if my skin starts having an orgasm, I'm turning that stuff off.
When I play my drum set at 4 AM the mood of my neighbors changes.
Have to wonder if 24/7 music is not diluting its positive potential. And some of these cheap systems render sounds so harsh as to not be enjoyable regardless of what is being played.
reading some of the comments I had a good laugh. and I agree with some of the people, the music in the stores is simply an irritant, it makes me cranky and I want to scream sometimes. the music of today should be played while you are locked alone in a closet. I go to this walgreen's near me to pick up prescriptions and just browse or buy non prescription items. the doors open at 9 am and I walk in and some group is screaming some kind of hideous music in which it seems no one can sing, THEY SCREAM. one day I was so aggravated and I saw the manager and I had to scream over the loud music just to tell her IT WAS TOO LOUD! she turned it lower but a few days later it was back on full force. I am considering an email the CEO of walgreens. another day I went to macy's and just wanted to walk and browse, the music was so disgusting and loud [I even hesitate to call it music] I just finally gave up and left the store.
