So, you’ve ripped through the first season of Derry Girls and started spending your days rehearsing your fake Northern Irish accent and wondering if and when you’ll ever be blessed with a second season. Unfortunately, I can’t do much to coach you through the correct pronunciation of “slàinte,” but I can give you all the information you need to know about season 2 of the comedy series.

The trailer looks absolutely hilarious.

I mean, it truly speaks for itself. It appears that although James and the girls are back still on their bullshit, they have discovered the world of winged eyeliner.

Season 2 already premiered in Ireland in March.

The series returned to television overseas in March...which means that the internet is literally a spoiler minefield. Stay safe out there, folks.

The United States will be able to see Derry Girls August 2!

Even though the first season was added to Netflix in December 2018, it actually premiered on Ireland’s Channel 4 in January 2018, meaning Americans didn’t get to watch for nearly a full year. So...we really lucked out this time around because the wait wasn’t so brutal. Derry Girls season 2 hits Netflix August 2.

Season 2 will be “bigger and braver.”

I’ll try to keep this spoiler-free (mainly because I don’t want to ruin it for myself, TBH), so here’s a very vague tidbit. Saoirse-Monica Jackson, who plays Erin, says that although the characters are still well aboard the hot mess express in season 2, the second season really outdoes the first.

“I would say there’s no second-album fear,” she said. “Lisa has really outdone herself. Not to say same old, same old, but the girls are definitely in the same situation, still a disaster, still a bunch of selfish teenagers, still getting themselves into trouble and thinking they’re right at all times.”

There’s going to be a third season and potentially even a movie.

UK broadcaster Channel 4 confirmed the third season in April but has not yet provided a date.

As a guest on an Irish radio show, Tommy Tiernan (who plays Gerry, the dad) hinted that there may be something even bigger in the works for Derry Girls.

“We’re doing season 3 and a film, maybe,” said Tommy. Let’s all try to remain calm, please.

It’s really no surprise there’s chatter around the Derry crew hitting the big screen. There’s literally a massive mural of their faces in Derry, and that feels like a solid step in that direction, no?
