Elon Musk and Grimes made their red-carpet debut at the Met Gala on Monday — and days later, people are still fascinated with this new pair. They’re talking about how they met, his relationship history, and the Canadian singer’s Tesla choker. Hey, even Weird Al is having a little fun with the whole thing.

The “Eat It” singer found himself pulled into a headline about how the new couple met. It said, “Elon Musk and Grimes Are Dating Because of This Weird AI Conspiracy Theory,” and he playfully pretended like it was his name in the headline instead of weird artificial intelligence.

The billionaire genius behind Tesla and SpaceX, 46, also known to some celeb watchers as Amber Heard’s last boyfriend, replied delightfully.

Man, we’d pay to hear that — though Musk’s girlfriend, 30, is clearly the one from that pair with the better pipes. The singer/songwriter/producer has received Juno Awards and iHeartRadio Much Music Video Awards for her work.

What’s clear is that Musk enjoys the attention over his new romance. In addition to replying to Weird Al’s comment, he replied to this comment comparing them to Bruce Willis and Milla Jovovich in The Fifth Element.

Grimes has also replied to the memes going around about them.

So how did Musk and Grimes meet? Page Six has a story, which led to the conspiracy theory headline, that they met in a nerdy way. A month ago, he was researching a joke about artificial intelligence involving “Rococo Basilisk,” a pun mashing up the thought experiment “Roko’s Basilisk” and the ornamental style seen in 18th century France. Apparently, during his research, he learned that Grimes had beat him to it — in a 2015 music video she made.

Thinking, hey, what are the odds, he reached out. She said this was the first time in three years that anyone understood the joke. It was an AI match made in heaven.

Musk posted the “Rococo basilisk” tweet just before hitting the Met Gala with his new lady.

Even as recent banter between them on Twitter led to a fan urging Musk to “just ask her out already,” Page Six says their geeky meet-cute was a month ago, so they had been hanging out in person already.

A Yahoo Entertainment eyewitness saw them together at the Season 2 premiere party for HBO’s hit sci-fi series Westworld on April 16 in Los Angeles. Even though they didn’t walk the red carpet together and he posed for photos solo, she was with him inside the afterparty. She didn’t seem to have posed for professional photos at all.

As for that Tesla choker Grimes wore, the internet is enjoying it.

Other people even wanted one of their own.

And, yes, Musk’s love life is messy. He was married three times to two women. (His first wife was Justine Musk and then Talulah Riley married and divorced him twice after that.) His last girlfriend was Heard, whom he tried to woo while she was with Johnny Depp. Once they split, she started dating him. They broke up, they got back together, and they parted ways again in February. Heard was also at the Met Gala, where the Musk and Grimes exhibited their dance moves for Vogue.

Because of Musk’s track record, not all the reaction to their pairing has been complimentary.

Although Twitter is good for some things, in this case, bringing together a new couple, it’s not good for others — like making people like them together.
