The Weeknd is ready to welcome a new era of music, and he let everyone know during the Olympics prime-time broadcast last night.

Ahead of its official release on Friday, his new single, “Take My Breath,” soundtracked a promo for upcoming women’s track and field events—the 800-meter final, 200-meter final, and 400-meter hurdles final—which will all air tonight on NBC's rebroadcast.

The intense montage features a handful of U.S. stars vying for medals: Sydney McLaughlin, Dalilah Muhammad, Athing Mu, and Gabby Thomas. “These women take your breath away,” the promo reads.

The Weeknd, born Abel Tesfaye, first teased his forthcoming song earlier this week as he posted a clip of the sun rising with an upbeat track in the background.

In mid-July, Tesfaye was already getting his fans excited when he tweeted that he had something in the works. “Really proud of this one. Wow,” he wrote. “Massaging it now, being sweet to it. giving it some tlc,” he added.

He also clarified that there was more than just one song on the way: “Just so there’s no confusion, it’s a full body of work.”

And he promised that his upcoming live shows would be just as exciting. “The tour is gonna be MADNESS,” he added.

Speaking to GQ, Tesfaye called the project “the album I’ve always wanted to make.” He also explained how he’ll measure the success of the release—and it won’t be through streaming numbers and awards.

“What makes any of my albums a successful album, especially this one, is me putting it out and getting excited to make the next one,” he told the magazine. “So the excitement to make the next project means that this one was successful to me. I want to do this forever. And even if I start getting into different mediums and different types of expressions, music will be right there. I’m not going to step away from it.”

The upcoming LP will be the follow-up to 2020’s After Hours, which includes songs like “Blinding Lights,” “Save Your Tears,” and “Heartless.”

Meanwhile, we can look forward to “Take My Breath,” which arrives August 6.
