So yesterday, the Recording Academy casually dropped its list of Grammy nominations, and oh, boy. There has been a lot of drama—like, to the point where “robbed” was trending on Twitter thanks to people being distraught that their faves were overlooked. And among the most shocking snubs was that of The Weeknd, whose critically acclaimed album After Hours spent weeks topping charts.

In response to being snubbed by the Recording Academy, The Weeknd hopped on Twitter and wrote, “The Grammys remain corrupt. You owe me, my fans, and the industry transparency….”

The Weeknd’s manager also went on Twitter to air out his frustrations and wrote, “Corrupt leaders need to step aside. Enough hiding behind your desks. We won’t tolerate or stay quiet. The time for change is now. We need transparency!!!!!!!!”

On top of this, TMZ published a report claiming that The Weeknd’s surprising snub might have had something to do with the fact that he’s performing at next year’s Super Bowl. TMZ’s sources claim there’s—as the outlet puts it—“growing suspicion Abel’s decision to perform at this year’s Super Bowl cost him Grammy noms because the bitter back-and-forth talks pissed off Grammy honchos.”

In response, Recording Academy chair and interim president/CEO Harvey Mason Jr. tells People that “in no way” could The Weeknd’s Super Bowl plans “have affected the nomination process.” He added, “We understand that The Weeknd is disappointed at not being nominated. I was surprised and can empathize with what he’s feeling. His music this year was excellent, and his contributions to the music community and broader world are worthy of everyone’s admiration.”

The statement continued in part, “To be clear, voting in all categories ended well before The Weeknd’s performance at the Super Bowl was announced, so in no way could it have affected the nomination process.”

Uh, okay, then why TF didn’t he get any noms?
