The fifth week of the college football season was not kind to quarterbacks.

BYU QB Zach Wilson suffered an injured right thumb against Toledo and is set to miss multiple games according to coach Kalani Sitake. Per a report from ESPN 960, Wilson needed surgery for a fracture in his thumb and will be out 6-8 weeks.

Wilson was replaced by Jaren Hall and Hall will be the team’s starting quarterback on Oct. 12 against South Florida. BYU is off in Week 6.

Wilson is 108-of-175 passing for 1,312 yards, five touchdowns and four interceptions in 2019. His best game came against USC, when he was 20-of-33 passing for 280 yards and a touchdown. He also rushed for a touchdown and caught a 19-yard pass in that game.

Purdue QB Elijah Sindelar suffered fractured clavicle

Purdue QB Elijah Sindelar and star WR Rondale Moore were both injured on the same play in the Boilermakers’ loss to Minnesota on Saturday. And Sindelar’s injury was the worse of the two.

Sindelar had surgery on Monday for a fractured clavicle and is out indefinitely. The injury happened when he was driven to the turf on his left shoulder.

Sindelar has played in just three games in 2019; he missed Purdue’s loss to TCU because of a concussion. He’s been extremely productive when he’s been on the field, however. He’s 72-of-112 passing for 978 yards and has thrown for nine touchdowns with just three interceptions. He was just four-of-eight passing for 46 yards before he went down against the Gophers.

Jack Plummer is expected to start for Purdue against Penn State on Saturday after stepping in for Sindelar following his injury.

Moore suffered a hamstring injury on that play and is expected to miss Saturday’s game. However, his injury is not believed to lead to a lengthy absence.

Cal QB Chase Garbers out ‘long term’

Cal lost its undefeated season on Friday night and QB Chase Garbers went down with what coach Justin Wilcox said is a “long-term” injury.

Wilcox has only classified Garbers’ injury as an upper-body one. Garbers spent much of the second half on the sideline with his right throwing arm in a sling after landing on that shoulder earlier in the game. He was replaced at QB by UCLA transfer Devon Modster.

Cal was the last remaining unbeaten in the Pac-12 and travels to Oregon on Saturday night. Garbers was 68-of-115 passing for 952 yards and eight touchdowns and two interceptions before he was injured.
