Apologies to Matty Healy's apology, but this whole Swiftie-verse dating saga just rubbed me the wrong way. When The 1975 frontman capped his rumored fling with Taylor Swift off with the most bizarre way to write an "R" since Billy Madison, I knew we had collectively reached the final straw. I mean, are we in middle school with this level of performative relationship drama? Let me unclench my full-body cringe and explain.

Matty Healy and Taylor Swift were dating. Possibly. We think. Even though he once said during an interview with NME back in 2016 that dating Swift would be "a de-masculinating, emasculating thing," it very likely just happened for about a month or two. It all started after Swift broke up with her longtime boyfriend, Conversations with Friends actor Joe Alywn. Immediately, it felt like Matty Healy started appearing at every stop on Swift's Eras Tour. They were spotted holding hands in New York—and Healy even sat with her dad at the Philadelphia show. It didn't work out, though. His icky comments about Ice Spice resurfacing just as Swift collaborated with the Bronx rapper on a "Karma" remix certainly couldn't have helped. Thus, People confirmed that the two split on June 5. "She had fun with him," a source revealed, but, "They are no longer romantically involved." Ouch.

Just a couple days later, Healy didn't seem to be taking it well. The 1975 singer—who decided to be his own opening act in Dublin after Caroline Polachek dropped out due to losing her voice—performed on a stage covered in white sheets. After crooning some stripped-down songs, touring guitarist Jamie Squire came out to perform a cover of "A Song for You." Notably, the song includes some rather timely lyrics like, "When my life is over, remember when we were together." Through videos on Twitter, Healy then spray-paints "Sorry," spelled with some of the most uncomfortable "R's" I've ever seen. Reportedly, the singer went back and later added a question mark to have it read "Sorry?" So, I guess he's already walking back his literal blanket apology. If only he went back to fix those "R's" instead.
