The Way Matt Damon and Luciana Barroso Met Is Straight Out of a Rom-Com
Matt Damon and Ben Affleck's new movie The Last Duel is out right in time for awards season, and they both showed up at the premiere red carpet looking super in love with their partners. While Ben was obviously doing his whole ~thing~ with J.Lo (and by that I mean tons of PDA, per usual), Matt arrived with his wife, Luciana Barroso, and they looked literally so sweet my heart cannot handle it. Considering The Last Duel is almost guaranteed to be an Oscar contender, we'll be seeing Matt and Luciana on a ton of red carpets this season, and the time has come to find out everything about their relationship.
Their Meet Cute Is Straight Out of a Movie
Luciana and Matt fell for each other while Matt was filming Stuck on You in Miami. Turns out he and the crew went to a bar after filming, and Luciana happened to be working there.
“I was working as a bartender in South Beach (Miami) and he was shooting a movie there and the crew ended up in the bar one Saturday night," she told Vogue. "Matt’s story is that he saw me across the room and there was a light on me. And I’m like: ‘Yeah it was a nightclub— there were lights everywhere!’ But he had started getting recognized and asked for pictures and autographs, and then it got kind of aggressive because people are drinking and stuff, and so he came and hid behind my bar… [wanting to] just hang out back there and have a drink. He says, ‘Oh I saw you and I really wanted to talk to you.'"
She ended up having him help her make drinks, saying, "He made me a ton of money in tips that night, because of course everyone wanted to go and see him. So it turned into a really fun night and then 15 years later here we are!”
Um, this is truly the plot of a rom-com??
Their Wedding Rings Are Super Special
Matt and Luciana had a casual civil ceremony at the Manhattan Marriage Bureau back in 2005 (followed by a celeb-packed vow renewal, naturally), but they exchanged bands packed with meaning. Matt told Parade that both his and Luciana's rings have three diamonds set on the inside from a ring belonging to Matt's grandmother.
“They were married for over 60 years. It wasn’t about the ring; it was about the marriage," he explained. "So when I told my mother that I was marrying Lucy, she gave me that ring and there were these six little diamonds. We took three of them and we put them on the inside of my band, and then we took three and we put them on the inside of her band. So they’re not visible, but we’re hopefully carrying the best part of that union with us.”
She's V.V.V. Low Key
There's honestly very little known about Luciana's life before meeting Matt Damon, other than the fact that she was born in Argentina and then moved to Miami—where they met. Luciana also doesn't use social media and keeps her life with Matt extremely private other than red carpet appearances and the occasional pap pic.
She's BFF with Chris Hemsworth's Wife Elsa Pataky
They even have matching tattoos, which Elsa revealed during an interview back in 2018.
"[Matt] is an amazing dad and an amazing person, he’s so easy. And his wife is Argentinian so we speak Spanish. So for me it’s a relief, yes, somebody I can speak Spanish with! We’ve become very good friends," Elsa told People. "The [Damons] came here for Christmas and we were all together and it was a really inspirational time. We created a lot of things and a lot of ideas. A few friends, we got together and we felt like we had to have something to remind us of those great moments we stayed together, and we decided to get a little tattoo [of three dots on their pinkies] all together and we say ‘We’ll have to do one every year.'”
She's Way Better With Gifts Than Matt
Matt once told Playboy (via Us Weekly), "I wish I were better because my wife deserves somebody who surprises her with a gift or flowers or some wonderful idea...I've never been good at that, and she's really good at it, which makes me feel even more like sh-t."
They Are Never Apart for More Than Two Weeks
"[We] have a two week rule," Matt told YourTango. "I'm not away for more than two weeks. I think you need to be with the person you love as much as possible. My wife is my soulmate. I don't like being apart from her."

They Have Four Daughters
Matt and Luciana have three daughters together named Isabella, Gia, and Stella, and Matt also helped raise Luciana's daughter Alexia, who she shares with her ex Arbello Barroso. Luciana actually opened up about how Matt appreciated her being a mom when they met, telling Vogue, "By the end of the night he invited me to go out with his friends. But I was like: ‘I can’t, I have a four-year-old daughter, I’m not going anywhere' and that was one of the things he loved, that I had a daughter. He said: ‘I love that you’re a mum and that’s your priority’. Some guys might have been different, they might think it’s complicated, but for him it wasn’t."
Matt has all four of his kids' names tattooed on his arm, as well as Lucy, for Luciana:
