Are You Watching Peaky Blinders?

Our love for British dramas has been well documented, and while The Crown and Downton Abbey allow us to glimpse elegant dinners, gorgeous dresses, and the slowly changing social strata of the well-to-do, there’s a gritter drama that has caught our attention as of late. It’s Peaky Blinders, a BBC show about British gangsters in industrial Birmingham, England, and we absolutely cannot stop watching.

Peaky Blinders is currently in its fifth season. It’s set in Birmingham in 1919, just after World War I. The uncertain economy that follows the war gives rise to criminality and new modes of moneymaking, both of which consume the main characters, the Shelby family and their gang, the Peaky Blinders. The group is led by Tommy Shelby, played by Cillian Murphy (Inception, Dunkirk), and his aunt, Polly Gray, played by Helen McCrory (Penny Dreadful, The Harry Potter Series).

The series also stars Paul Anderson (The Revenant, In the Heart of the Sea), Joe Cole (Secret in Their Eyes, The Falling), Sophie Rundle (Bodyguard, Jamestown), Tom Hardy (The Dark Knight Rises, Mad Max: Fury Road), Annabelle Wallis (The Mummy, Tag), and Finn Cole (Dreamland, Inspector Lewis).

Throughout the series' five seasons, the Shelbys and their associates find themselves in trouble, much of which they make themselves. It's thrilling to watch, and you can follow along with their exploits when you tune in: All five seasons of Peaky Blinders are available to watch now on Netflix.
